Admission Process at IITs & IISc:

·          IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guahati & IISc Bangalore are giving admissions for some specialisation based on the GATE score directly and some specialisations based on GATE Score + Test + Interview. So candidates are advised to opt for first preference carefully, appropriate to their GATE score.

·         IIT Delhi is giving admissions based on GATE Score + Interview. In general candidate are called for interview by considering their first preference so candidate are advised to opt for first preference carefully, appropriate to their GATE score.

Know M.S Programme:

It is equivalent to M.Tech. Admissions are given twice in a year in (June & November) all IIT’s have M.S programme. Here the admission is based on Gate score + interview + B.tech marks. Generally minimum period is two years but it depends on candidates hard work. If the guide is satisfied with the work then the guide will recommend for awarding MS, if not it may take more time. In general the average time period will be 2½ to 3 years. Candidates with rank above 500 & B.tech percentage above 70%. have chances to get this programme.
For MS in all IIT’s, the candidates will be called for interview based on gate score + degree marks ( general method ). But some times they may call based on GATE Score itself.

Good Institutes other than IITs:

 NITIE ( Mumbai) :

This is a very good institute in industrial Engg. Here the admissions are based on Gate score + Group discussion + Interview. G.D will be conducted generally on the general topics like privatization, how to develop Rural areas, literacy development, terms related to contract and agreement, role of a manager,  effects of Gulf war on India, Signing on nuclear treaty by INDIA and preventive measures, Outsourcing, infrastructure devlopment  etc. Fee is 90000 per year and student is entitled to get Rs 8000/- per month as assistantship. After doing  PG  here you will get a job with min of Rs 8 Lakhs / year. You have facility to avail loan in the banks.

PSG College of Engg. Coimbatore:

It is a good institute with placement is almost equal to IIT’s. Selection is based on GATE + TANCET. Candidate has to appear for Tamilnadu PG test (TANCET). Candidates  have to apply separately for each department.

NIFFT, Ranchi:

Here there are only two specializations,  Foundry and manufacturing Engg. Placement is good but in the hardware side only. Admissions are purely based on Gate Score. 100% placement.

 BITS , Pilani:

It is also a good institute and is generally next to IIT’s. Almost 100% good placement is available. Admissions are based on Gate score + test for 100 one mark questions (sometime interview also conducted after test) .

NIT, Trichy:

This is the top most NIT out of all NIT’s for ME. Here, Welding Technology will be given first preference  because, it has very good placement . Admissions are based on Gate score + written test + interview. Here, if you complete welding technology specialization you will definitely get job in Bharat Heavy Plates And Vessels Ltd , Visakapatnam. Design , Manufacturing and other specialisations also excellent.

NIT Calicut:

One of the Top NITs in the country. Excellent Infrastructure, Faculty & Good placement. Admissions are based on GATE score only.

 NIT Suratkal:

       One of the premier NITs. Good placement. Notification of Suratkal, generally comes in Indian Express. Admissions are based on GATE score only.

NIT Warangal:

        One of the first prefered NIT for B.tech. It keeps same quality for M.Tech also. Good placement is available and admissions are based on GATE score only.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology,  Patiala:

They are giving admissions based on GATE + interview. But institute and studies are excellent and almost placement is 100%.

 BHU ( Banarus Hindu University):

Good institute with placement. Admissions are based on Gate score + test. Here manufacturing is very nice.

CIT, Coimbatore:

It is also a very good institute. Good placement and admissions are based on GATE score + TANCET Score.

VJTI, Bombay:

Good institute with 100% placement. But it has only two specializations viz. Automobile Engg and Design. Admissions are based on GATE score only. But the notification will come only in the times of India news paper and Mumbai local news papers. So be alerted!

ISI Kolkota:

        Famous Institute for Statitics & Mathematics in Asia. It offers M.Tech Quality Control for Mechanical stream.

Delhi Technological University (alias Delhi College of Engineering):

 It is also one of the good institute. Admissions are based on GATE score only.

B.E College Shibpur, Calcutta:

        It is also one of the famous institute. Good infrastructure & Placement. Admissions are based on GATE score only.

The next category of Colleges are:

  • Jodhpur University
  • Jayachama Rajendra College of Engg. , Mysore
  • NIT Nagpur
  • CUSAT, Kochi
  • Amrita University, Coimbatore
  • S.V. University College of Engg.
  • JNTU
  • Andhra University College of Engg.

    Special attention for SC/ST students:

    We strongly suggest you to apply for premier institutes like IIT’s irrespective of your ranks. Luck may favor you.

    Special attention for Girls:

    Certain universities have girls reservation, eg. Andhra Pradesh. Hence even at lower marks compared to boys, girls have fair chances.

    Special note for Second Class students:

    If you see the rules & regulations of various premier Institutes, 1st class in Engineering is the pre-requisite. If you apply online, your application will be rejected. Hence we suggest you to apply manually with a request letter stating your present strengths substantiating with GATE Score and your desire to do M.Tech in the respective IIT. Request them to give you a chance so that you can prove yourself. Most of the professors would like to encourage the students who are seriously interested, inspite of the above –ve point, if the GATE score is good and the student has a burning desire to join the desired specialization in the desired IIT.  They may consider your application with sympathy and may give you a chance after a personnel Interview. Be bold and be positive. Definitely, you can reach your goal.

    Note:

    1.   Those who have got relatively low scores in the GATE are strongly advised to apply for more number of colleges (not less than 10) so that they can get admission in at least one college in the desired specialization.

    2.   The students shall be in-touch with the daily English newspapers ( The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Times of India etc.) and Employment News for the M.Tech notifications by various colleges.

    All the above guidelines are only suggestive / advisory. The candidates are requested to go through the information brochure of each college and take their own decision appropriately, depending upon their interest.

    I think you r not qualified. It is difficult to get admission in GATE quota, if you are not qualified.

  7. @emani,
    With AIR 10000+ it is difficult to get in to IITs & NITs. If you have a burning desire to be in IIT for M.Tech, it is better to repeat for GATE-2012. Otherwise you have to find a good university governed or Private college to join. After completing M.tech with good academics, try for IIT for your PhD.

    @ANIMESH,
    It is hard to get IIT admission with AIR 3500. Do apply to new tier NITs & good university colleges.

    @akshansh,
    Do apply to university colleges & good Private colleges.

  11. Hi dis s kishore. my gate score is 564. AIR 1533(obc).Which colleges should i apply ? can i get into iits (mtech or ms)?

  12. @Jyothish,
    You have 90% chance for IISc. But not 100% assured. Do apply to IISc, IIT-B & IIT-D.

    @kapil,
    Do apply to IIT-Kgp,G,R & Top NITs.

    @ankur,
    2011 GATE rank DOES NOT include 2010 GATE qualified students. To balance these 2 categories GATE scores(Not Ranks) will be used.
    Apply to NITs & Good University colleges.

    @kishore,
    Apply to top NITs.
